Egypt, a country in North Africa, has amazed travellers for centuries. The monuments of its ancient civilisation would be hard to outshine. The Giza pyramid complex and the Great Sphinx can be found close to Cairo in the North and the southern city of Luxor contains many ancient artefacts including the Karnak Temple and the Valley of the Kings. Most of Egypt is a sandy desert, with most civilisations concentrated along the banks of the River Nile.
