Cannes lies on the Côte d'Azur within easy reach of the Maritime Alps. This modern city grew up from a small fishing town on the Mediterranean Sea. Today the fishing tradition lives on and fish caught at the Vieux Port are brought to the Forville Market, where they are sold by fishermen’s wives. In the 11th century Monks built a square tower on the top of the hill, as a lookout post for Saracen pirates. This is where it still stands in the heart of Le Suquet, Cannes’ Old Town. This is a great place to look out over seven miles of beaches, stroll down winding streets or visit small boutiques and restaurants.
