Alaska is the largest state in the US. It is located at the north-west of the North American continent and does not share a border with any other state. In fact the capital city, Juneau, is inaccessible by land - no roads connect Juneau to the rest of the North American highway system. Alaska has over 3 million lakes, nearly 55,000 km of tidal shoreline and also some spectacular mountain ranges with active volcanoes.
